India will be led by KL Rahul in ODIs and Suryakumar in T20Is

India’s limited overs squads in South Africa will be captained by KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav, the BCCI said on Thursday, November 30. Both the ODI and T20I squads are devoid of veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who the board confirmed had asked to be removed from the white-ball portion of the tour.

In addition to resting players like Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, and Suryakumar Yadav, the selectors made other changes to the ODI roster for the three-match series. The following have been selected: Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sai Sudharshan, Rajat Patidar, and Sanju Samson. Along with players like Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, bowling specialists Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Deepak Chahar have been added.

The Test team includes all three of the top pacers, with Rahul and Ishan serving as the team’s chosen wicketkeepers. However, KS Bharat has been selected to lead the India A squad and will be accompanying the group on their tour of South Africa. Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara were excluded from the Test squad by the selectors, while Shreyas Iyer has returned to full fitness and Ruturaj Gaikwad continues to maintain a position. The board additionally verified that Shami is receiving medical attention, and his suitability for the tests would depend on that.

Along with making a comeback, Ravindra Jadeja gets selected vice-captain of the T20I squad. Along with Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammad Siraj, and Deepak Chahar, Gill, who was rested from the current series against Australia, has been added.

The tour begins on December 10 with the T20I series, followed by three ODIs. India will then play the hosts in a Boxing Day Test match commencing on December 26 before ending the tour with the second and final Test beginning on January 3.
