KL Rahul injury, prima facie, is very serious and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken over his case fully. The BCCI and Lucknow Super Giants sources have informed Cricbuzz that his further participation will be left to the decision of the BCCI, more appropriately by the medical team of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
The LSG captain is still in Lucknow, where the team will take on Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday afternoon, but he will not be playing the game. Krunal Pandya, who led the side after Rahul suffered the hip-flexor injury while chasing the ball during Royal Challengers Bangalore’s innings on Monday night, will be captaining against CSK.
The BCCI/NCA takeover of the case is understandable as Rahul is a contracted player. Besides, he is also in the squad for the World Test Championship (WTC) final next month and that explains the immediate intervention of the BCCI and NCA medical team. Rahul and LSG will be guided by the NCA advice from now on, the franchise sources have said.
They still have five more league games and potentially up to three more if they reach the final. After the injury, Rahul, who opens for his team, came to bat as No 11 batter for LSG and failed to take even a run. He faced three balls and did not take a run. He was visibly in pain during his short stay at the crease. An LSG spokesman said the team will be able to reveal more about Rahul injury status on Wednesday.
