The Board of Control for Cricket in India has placed Chetan Sakariya on the suspicious bowling action list (BCCI). The BCCI notified the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises on Friday that the Saurashtra left-arm pacer is one of the seven players the board has designated as a bowler with a suspicious action, even though he is not prohibited from bowling.
Sakariya has represented India in one ODI and two T20Is in addition to 19 IPL games. Strangely, very few people know the exact day that the left-arm pacer was first documented. Officials from the Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) and individuals with direct knowledge of the player deny knowing that he is on the suspect list.
The 25-year-old pacer has been reported, but has not been banned, according to the BCCI. Sakariya was recently released by the Delhi Capitals franchise. He is currently out of commission owing to a stress fracture in his back. Sources from the Saurashtra team, however, suggest that he will return to action shortly and might even play in this season’s Ranji Trophy.
Sakariya hasn’t played in any domestic matches this season, including the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, since the conclusion of the previous IPL. Sakariya is ranked No. 27 in the auction register and has set a base price of Rs 50 lakh for himself.
Other domestic stalwarts on the list include Tanush Kotian of the Mumbai Cricket Association, Rohan Kunnummal of the Kerala Cricket Association, Chirag Gandhi of the Gujarat Cricket Association, Salman Nizar of the Kerala Cricket Association, Saurabh Dubey of the Vidarbha Cricket Association, and Arpit Guleria of the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association. Manish Pandey and KL Shrijith, both members of the Karnataka State Cricket Association, have also been barred from bowling.
The BCCI has yet to notify IPL franchises of foreign player availability. This information will be communicated to the franchises at a later period, according to the company. Given that the Twenty20 World Cup immediately follows the IPL in June, the period of international player availability is critical information that franchisees are keenly expecting before the auction.
The BCCI has announced that the auction would begin at 11:30 a.m. UAE time (1 p.m. IST) on December 19 at the Coca Cola Arena in Dubai.
The auction will feature 333 cricketers, including 214 Indians and 119 abroad players, plus two from associate nations. Apart from the two associate nations players, there are 116 capped players and 215 uncapped players.
